Contemplating Meditative Walk
Take a walk to savour nature and quiet the mind
Walking meditation, also known as mindful walking, is an active practice that lets you to be consciously aware and moving in the environment rather than sitting down with your eyes closed. The practice brings you closer to nature and your body. It also helps strengthen your concentration, makes you more aware, and connects you to the present moment.
Walking in silence with a group is a unique and oddly bonding experience. First, you have the space in which to savour your surroundings. Then, when you regroup, the pleasure of being together is amplified, the conversation more compelling, the sharing of feelings and thoughts more of an occasion.
Attending to calm surroundings not only connects us to our environment, but to a deeper place in our own being. For those struggling to be mindful, and even for those proficient in meditation, a mindful walk through nature can ease many troubles.
