Conservation and Restoration
Do you want to dive into the art of preservation the historic artefacts? The Central Bohemian Museum in Rozroky has a reputable restoration facility well-known in whole country and abroad. The Conservation Department has well-equipped shops and laboratories to conserve and restore artworks and objects made of metal, paper, pottery, textile, and wood. Traditionally, the conservation workshops prepare collection objects for museum exhibitions. Great emphasis is placed on the proper storage of objects in repositories. Besides that, Museum established an irradiation facility for treating primarily wooden historical collections. This facility utilizes ionizing gamma radiation generated by radioactive cobalt. Gamma radiation alters the structure of living organisms and is unsuitable for certain materials: it ages paper, textiles, plastics, and darkens glass. However, it does not harm paint, varnish, or metal. Objects treated with irradiation are not „radioactive“ themselves. Let´s come and explore it!
After the excursion we´ll try one of the local restaurants in Roztoky. The trains to Prague go quite often.
