Hi there. My husband and I will be moving to Cape Town in the next two months. He will be working as a research manager at CSIR Campus, 15 Lower Hope St., Rosebank, Cape Town, South Africa. We are an interracial couple (he is mixed race, I am Caucasian). I grew up in Philadelphia, PA, a pretty rough-and-tumble kind of town, and am not scared of cities or things urban. However, Ian is worried about what he has read about crime in Cape Town. He wants safety for both of us. I would like to live somewhere where a lot of walking for shopping and hanging out is possible. Somewhere close to where he will be working would be ideal as I've read that Cape Town traffic is atrocious. Reasonable rents would be nice as well, but we would be willing to pay a higher rent for a terrific, convenient, fun location. Could anyone suggest what neighborhoods we might want to look to? What neighborhoods would we want to avoid at all costs?
