Security in Caracas How bad is crime there? Tips?

Hi there,

My name's Manuel Rueda, I'm a journalist and member of the Bogota internations community, I travel to Venezuela for work sometimes too. I'm doing a story on security for expats in Venezuela. What precautions do you take in Caracas? How safe do you feel? Have you been victim of a robbery? What things do you do differently in Caracas to keep yourself safe?

The reason I'm doing this story, is cause an American lawyer John Pate, was just murdered in his home in the neighborhood of San Roman adn we want to see what expats who have been in venezuela have to say about this issue. Would anyone care to comment on this thread? I might also have to head to venezuela for work again soon, and would appreciate any info for my own purposes!
