School for mildly ASD child (Hamburg)

Hello,
My son has mild aspergers and functions well in his mainstream UK school with no individual support. I have contacted the International School and Phorms about him attending here, however Phorms have replied to say he need to have an assessment and diagnosis by Hamburg School Authority but it's unlikely he can attend.
My son is very bright and above national average in all subjects however I am worried that he will now be placed into a 'special needs school' which I do not think he needs.
Can anybody tel me how the German Education System works in relation to children with a diagnosis?
Thanks
