Our Friendly Community of Expatriates in Kathmandu Welcomes You!

Namaste and welcome to InterNations Kathmandu, the community for expats in Nepal's capital! As a social network that serves expats in Kathmandu and elsewhere around the world, InterNations is here to make moving to your new country easier. With a low cost of living and beautiful scenery, Kathmandu certainly has lots to offer expats. At the same time, Nepal's slow economic development also means it presents many challenges. Fortunately, our InterNations members are here to answer your burning questions. These may include "which areas of Kathmandu should I consider living in?" and "what is the healthcare like?". Our members will soon inform you that Lazimpat is particularly safe, and that although the healthcare system here is underdeveloped, you can venture to neighbor India for complex health needs.

With InterNations, you never stand alone. Whether you are moving to another country or going on a business trip somewhere — our communities around the world are there to make you feel at home wherever you are. Feel free to also check out our other vibrant InterNations Communities like the ones in Singapore or Shanghai.

What to Expect from Life in Kathmandu

Eastern culture appears to thrive against a backdrop of pupil-dilating mountains in Kathmandu. There is plenty for expats to explore there, but when it comes to the logistical elements of moving to the city, there are a few challenges ahead. Many who move to Kathmandu do so with development organizations or diplomatic missions. If you're heading to Kathmandu with the aim of finding work once there, you may want to consider obtaining a TEFL certificate and teaching English. Once in the city, you will benefit from extremely low rental prices, low-cost fresh food, and an amalgam of chaotic sights and sounds. Key hospitals include the Om Hospital and Norvic International Hospital. Local restaurants serving sumptuous dishes at great prices include the Ship Restaurant Bar and Lounge, and Fren's Kitchen.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. Whether they live in Hong Kong or Riyadh, InterNations allows you to be close to them even if they are miles away.

Make Friends and Build Your Network in Kathmandu with InterNations!

Here at InterNations, our members want to make your transition easier. As they have experienced life as an expatriate in Kathmandu for themselves, they can offer invaluable advice you won't find in any guide book. Whether you want to find the most appropriate insurance plan for your family or source good accommodation, our members as well as dedicated guide articles are here to help you out. In return, all we ask is that you enjoy our community with a positive attitude and lots of friendliness. After settling in, why not give one of our InterNations Official Events a try? They're held on a regular basis in Kathmandu, and they're a fantastic opportunity to make new friends. Sometimes our members even host their own events, which can include but are certainly not limited coffee evenings or dancing. And in case you want to pursue a specific hobby after your move, you can even create your own InterNations Group to find fellow expats who share your interests.

I've found great people who helped me a lot when I moved to Kathmandu. I now also give tips to others who want to move to Canada.
