Living in Lafayette

Lafayette is one of the largest cities in Louisiana, and is nicknamed ‘the hub state’ as a result of its location at the center of Acadiana, known for being the Cajun region of the US following the settlement of a number of Acadians who were moved out of Canada. As a popular tourist destination, Lafayette has plenty to offer in terms of culture, particularly Cajun culture. There are a number of fantastic places to visit including the Acadian Cultural Center and the Acadian Village which offer a great insight into Cajun traditions as well as the Children’s Museum and a thriving downtown area which offers plenty in terms of leisure including nightlife and shopping. Expats living in Lafayette can experience a number of festivals which take place in the area including the Festival International de Louisiane which celebrates Lafeyette’s French history as well as the Festival Acadiens et Creoles.
