Living in Le Havre

Le Havre is a stunning city in the Upper Normandy area which serves as a port to the Seine, as well as being situated on the English Channel, and is therefore known as “La porte océane”. It is a major port for Paris as well as other areas in France. There are many fantastic sights for expats living in Le Havre to explore, including the famous Le Havre Cathedral, the Church of St Joseph and Malraux Museum which has an impressive collection of works by French impressionists. The city has spectacular beaches and open spaces as well as a lively nightlife whilst there are plenty of places to enjoy traditional Normandy cider and cheese. Le Havre has been named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, following its reconstruction after being damaged during World War I and World War II and it is home to a number of well-known arts and music festivals.

Moving to Le Havre

Le Havre is a fantastic location for any expatriate to move to, with plenty of cultural aspects available and a lot of history to explore. There are a range of transport options that make it easy to get around the city including buses, recently re-introduced tramways and plenty of cycling opportunities which provides an excellent way to get around the city. The city is also well connected to the rest of France by rail and by air making it easy for expats moving to Le Havre to visit the rest of the country. Le Havre is known for having a number of respected schools and colleges, as well as language schools and it is also has its own university, the Université du Havre, which offers a wide range of courses as well as an institute of technology. The climate of the city is very similar to other locations along the English Channel, and expats living in Le Havre will find that the city is often windy, and rain occurs regularly throughout the year. However, expatriates in Le Havre need not fear, the summers tend to be much warmer.

Working in Le Havre

Le Havre has a diverse economy, with a number of opportunities centered in the trade and shipping industries. There are also major manufacturers and producers based in the area including Renault as well as petrochemical and aerospace production.
