Expat Life and the Economy in Ljubljana

Slovenia's distinctive history and geography lends its green and spacious capital a unique blend of sensibilities, with the cosmopolitan feel of a wealthy Western city rubbing shoulders with the remnants of the country's time as part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. For the Slovenes, the road to independence was relatively painless, and Ljubljana rapidly became a thriving hub of commerce and education. Today, over 64,000 students make the city their home, alongside a number of leading global and national organizations in key industries such as trade and export, car production and services. Expats will delight in the traffic-restricted city center, where pedestrians stroll along the banks and bridges of the Ljubljanica River and sip coffee and beer in the cafes and bars that populate its banks. The large population of young people means a busy and diverse nightlife, too, although the city has largely avoided becoming a Riga- or Prague-style stag party capital. With a welcoming populace, a high standard of living, and English very widely spoken by residents, Ljubljana is a city well worth getting to know.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. Whether they live in Bangkok or Bali, InterNations allows you to be close to them even if they are miles away.
