Did you know that 19 August it’s World Photography Day? Not that our members need an excuse to go out and snap some pics in the first place.
Early in the month on 2 August, for example, the Montréal Museums & Exhibitions Group headed out for a walk and some Street Photography in Old Montreal. Whether abstract or in focus, with or without people, we hope you had a great time capturing unposed moments of city life.
In The Hague, a very special animal played model during the Amateur Photographers Group’s Apiary (Bee Hives) Visit on 3 August. Members had plenty of opportunity to practice macro photography on the flowers and bees and also received a short introduction on beekeeping and the life of a bee.
Taking a stroll through nature is one of the best ways to relax; and at the same time offers a lovely setting for a photography session. That’s why the Istanbul Photography Group opted for a refreshing outdoor experience at Atatürk Urban Forest with their Hiking & Photowalking in the Forest activity on 16 August.
Members of the Barcelona Photography Group took a slightly different approach. Instead of taking pictures themselves, on 19 August, they opted for a visit of the Edward Weston exhibition which comprises of nearly 200 photographs and numerous documentary materials on this famous American photographer.
And in Gent, the community was invited to Picnic & Photography at Sint-Pietersabdij for their official event on 10 August. Following a laid-back picnic for lunch, attendees too headed to a photography exhibition for a spot of culture. The topic: Beauty as Resistance, with a focus on works by Michiel Hendryckx.
Especially in the Northern Hemisphere, August is a popular month for vacation. And InterNations members, too, enjoy the occasional trip further afield together!
Members of the Milan Weekend Explorers Group, for instance, headed on a Weekend Trip to Locarno/Carì on 9–10 August. Combining culture — the Locarno Film Festival fell on the same weekend — with sightseeing and nature, attendees could certainly look forward to a fun agenda.
The Lisbon Portugal Explorers Group took it even further with a 4-day trip in the first half of August. Their trip combined a visiting the Évora Vineyards and experiencing the Perseids meteor shower at a prime stargazing spot.
Wine was also a topic during the Budapest Community Group’s activity on 9 August. Their daytrip to Balatonfüred beach not only made for a relaxing summer break at the waterfront. It also coincided with the local wine festival, featuring close to 300 regional wines and live music.
You’d also like to go on a small journey with fellow global minds? Keep your eyes open for (day) trips in your community. The London New Friends Group, for instance, is heading to the Riverside & Medieval Canterbury on Saturday, 23 August.
Of course, you don’t need to journey far to get together with other InterNations members. Official events offer the perfect opportunity to chat, connect, and meet friends, old and new.
On 7 August, the Helsinki Community, for instance, celebrated their August Summer Social and the warm weather at a trendy venue with harbor views.
Ankara, too, enjoy a venue close to water. Though in this case it was a pool, with the Ankara Summer Night hosted at Pool Pub.
The Apéro at the BeachClub was hosted by the Darmstadt Ambassadors and their wonderful helper Michael on 10 August. Based on the smiling faces and lovely wall comments, we gather it was quite a success. 😊
If you should be in Dakar on Saturday, 23 August, you’re in luck: the August Apero is waiting for you.
InterNations Nicosia, meanwhile, is celebrating members’ return from summer vacation with Summer Event at the Garden on Tuesday, 26 August.
