• The food and culture are a joy. Milan scores 93% for culinary variety and 84% for culture and nightlife, and Turks describe la dolce vita and the beauty of the country.

• It's a launchpad for travel. 97% of expats in Milan rate the opportunity to travel positively — one of the highest scores anywhere — and 90% rate public transport.

• Healthcare is solid. 69% rate healthcare affordability positively and 77% the quality of medical care.

• The language comes relatively easily. 53% say Italian is easy to learn, above the global average of 39%, with a warm climate (66%) and beautiful nature (86%).

• Bureaucracy is the biggest gripe by far. Just 16% of expats in Milan find it easy to deal with local authorities, and Turks describe it as long and draining.

• Housing and costs bite. Only 16% rate housing affordability positively and 29% the general cost of living, and raising a family feels hard.

• Careers are thin. Turks call Italy a great place to holiday but a hard place to find work, with limited job opportunities.

• The welcome and air can disappoint. Only 59% rate personal safety positively, air quality rates just 23%, and some describe indirect communication and a cool attitude toward foreigners.

For Turks, Milan offers wonderful food, culture, healthcare, and an unbeatable base for travel. The trade-offs are the bureaucracy, the cost, thin careers, and the air. It rewards those who come for the lifestyle and the location more than the job market.
