Basic French (Montréal)

Hello! I landed as a permanent resident in Montreal a month ago via spousal sponsorship - my husband is French Canadian. I am college educated and have a strong resume, but I haven't had any responses to my applications as yet. I only speak basic French. I thought I would be able to find an English speaking job here, but now I'm not sure if I was wrong in that assumption. Does anyone have any insight for English speakers in the Montreal job market?
