Family joining visa (Muscat)

Has anyone got any correct and up to date information about the process of obtaining an family joining visa. My husband is working in Oman, and I am going to be joining him permanently in October, but I am here visiting now. His company have told him I need to be out of the country so that can process the visa, is this right?
