The InterNations events in Bucharest are really great. The members attending, both expats and locals, are very interesting to talk to.

Living in Oradea

The beautiful Romanian city of Oradea is sometimes described as "Paris on the River Pece" and it isn't hard to see why. One of the finest products of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, any expatriate moving to Oradea with an interest in architecture or history can rest assured that this is a city overflowing with beauty and heritage. Major sights to enjoy include the opulent Episcopal Palace, a museum built in Viennese Baroque style and famed for its beautiful windows – it has one for each day of the year. A wander down the lovely Calea Republicii is another must for expats living in Oradea, as are visits to the city’s other famous landmarks such as the Cetatea Oradea fortress, the unique Biserica cu Lună church and the wonderfully named Black Eagle passage.

Moving to Oradea

With a population of a bit over 200,000, Oradea is a major city close to the Hungarian-Romanian border, and located directly between Budapest and Bucharest (two of the most exquisite European cities, and well worth weekend visits). It's a prosperous city and expatriates moving to Oradea will find the local lifestyle quite luxuriant, with beautiful streets, great food and a rather generous exchange rate. The city is also a major transport hub, being located between two major capitals, and any expat relocating to Oradea can travel there easily by intercity coach, train or plane. There is also a small airport, Oradea International Airport. Expats moving to Oradea should find the city easy to get to, and can get plenty of useful information on general expatriation topics in the Expat Magazine on the InterNations website. We cover topics like expat finance, living abroad, cross-cultural communication and so on.

Working in Oradea

The Băile Felix is another great destination for expats living in Oradea – whether or not you're interested in heritage, it would be hard not to enjoy basking in this beautiful thermal spa, reputed to be one of the best in Romania. You could spend days just taking in the city's winding streets and tangible history, but if you'd like to get in touch with other expatriates working in Oradea, the discussion groups and private messages on our website are a great way for InterNations members to quickly get in touch with other local expats in Oradea. It's a great city to explore either way, with sites like the lovely Teatrul Regina Maria (Queen Mary Theatre), Baroque Palace Museum and Catedrala barocă, the largest Baroque cathedral in the country. Whether you're looking for a local international network, other global minds or simply to enjoy the city's vibrant streets, it isn't hard to feel at home as an expatriate in Oradea.

I have met most of my friends in Bucharest through InterNations. I never thought I would join an online community. Glad that I changed my mind.
