Looking for advices (Panama City)

Good day all, I am new on this site and to make a long story short, I am looking at moving in Panama in 4 to 8 years but will probably buy before that. I guess my first step is to go there and visit the place and live with the locals. Now here are my initial questions:

I am looking for Canadian communities if there are such things?
Should I hire a guide someone who now about expact?
Any itinerary you might suggest?
