Living in Pleven

Pleven is the seventh largest city in Bulgaria, with a population of 106,000 and also the capital of Pleven Province. It is one of the most important economic and cultural centers in the north of Bulgaria. The city has many museums depicting its rich history and indeed is still known as "The Town of Museums". The main event in Pleven’s history was undoubtedly the famous siege of Pleven, which contributed to the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. Expats living in Pleven will discover that this is recorded in the Pleven Panorama, a well-known city landmark. Similarly, the religious significance of the city is reflected in the beautiful chapel-mausoleum of “St. George the Victorious.” InterNations is a great platform to allow expats living in Pleven to find out more about the city from international residents just like themselves.

Pan-European highway, E 83, passes through the city and there are good national bus services to most Bulgarian destinations. Once in the city, expatriates in Pleven will find an extensive and efficient trolley bus network covering almost the entire city. The city has a vibrant economy that has benefited from much foreign investment, especially in the construction of large hypermarket shopping centers. Working in Pleven

Pleven has a varied economy and is a center for oil processing, construction, metalwork, machinery and food industries. The most important sectors are those of the chemical, foodstuff and textile industries, but retail, cement and glass manufacture and services are also significant. Such a varied economy and much inward investment can create lots of opportunities for expats working in Pleven, but keeping on top of it all can be difficult. That is why membership of InterNations is so valuable to the expatriate community. Here they can make new business connections and explore professional opportunities together. The online socializing and networking opportunities are further enhanced by our Expat Magazine, which contains lots of helpful and informative articles on leading the expatriate life.
