Living in Saint-Etienne

Saint- Etienne is a French city that in the past was also known as ‘Armeville’ due to the local history of weapon manufacturing. If you’re already living in the town you might know it for attractions such as its Museum of Modern Art as well as its automobile culture and design biennale. It is also famous for its Massenet Festivals, which are named after the composer Jules Massenet who lived in the area. Expats living in Saint-Etienne will further be able to enjoy some incredible local museums, such as the Musée d'Art Moderne, which features some of the most stunning modern art in the world. . The town was once France’s bicycle industry capital, with manufacturers such as Vitus still being based there and as such it is only fitting that the Tour de France often passes through Saint-Etienne. It is relatively easy to reach Paris and Lyon from the town and the nearest airport is just 12km away. Locally, expats in Saint-Etienne can easily get around using the local trolleybuses and tramways.
