Credit cards (São Paulo)

Hi again everyone, I have another question- thanks to everyone that has answered my questions so far! My work place suggested in their welcome package to me that I get an american credit card... I have some Canadian ones that I plan to keep- would I specifically need an american credit card?

And do expats apply for Brazilian credit cards? the only expat experiences I have are in cash-based societies... where we carried around wads of Protected content ... probably not the Brazil experience. :)
