New in Town, any pro tips or anecdotes? (São Paulo)

Hey everyone, just got here last week, first time I've been in a country where I can't speak the language and boy it's hard. I thought I could be just fine with just speaking spanish... I was SO wrong, its not about the word itself, its about the pronunciation...

Anyway, any one got any nice tips for a newcomer? I've read the guide and everything, but I'm sure someone must have something better :)
