Living in Tempe

Tempe, formerly known as Hayden’s Ferry, is situated in Maricopa County, Arizona, near to Phoenix and Scottsdale. The city is home to Arizona State University, and due to the large student population, Tempe has a vibrant and cosmopolitan atmosphere, especially at night when the downtown Mill Avenue district and the adjacent Lakeside Development really come alive. Leading chain stores and specialty shops, as well as several entertainment venues make downtown Tempe the place to visit by day and night. And with over one hundred restaurants in this area alone, expats living in Tempe should never be bored with the menus and cuisine on offer! Moving to Tempe

Tempe is only ten minutes away from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and close to four major freeways, making the city a very convenient place to live and work in. The Tempe in Motion bus routes are popular with residents, and the new Metro light rail system links Tempe with Phoenix and Mesa, making business travel between the neighboring cities very easy and convenient. Tempe has some 165 miles of designated cycling and walking/jogging paths within its city limits, including the beautiful waterfront area. The Arizona State University, meanwhile, is the largest public university in the United States and has many sporting and cultural venues on campus, including the ASU Gammage Auditorium, a theater designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Relocating to Tempe can nevertheless be quite daunting and problems may arise which call for advice from those with experience of the relocation process to the United States and Arizona.
