Kindergarten Question (Zurich)

My family and I may be moving to Zurich from Seattle in the Spring. My son will be turning five in March. Is it unrealistic to send him to a public school with his very limited German language abilities? I was surprised to see the cost of the private/international schools. I want him to be comfortable, but I also want him to learn German as quickly as possible. I'll gladly accept any advice!
