Pakistanis in Abu Dhabi: The Pros & Cons of Expat Life
Thinking about moving to Abu Dhabi as a Pakistani? These pros and cons come from the InterNations Expat Insider 2026 survey, in which thousands of expats around the world share what they like and don't like about life abroad each year. The points below reflect what Pakistani expats in Abu Dhabi wrote in their own words, backed up by survey percentages from all expats living there.
What Pakistanis love about living in Abu Dhabi
-
It's safe and well-run. 92% of expats in Abu Dhabi rate personal safety positively and 72% find bureaucracy easy (vs. 38% globally), in a country Pakistanis describe as respectful and easy to live in.
-
The economy and careers are strong. 94% rate the state of the economy positively and 78% say the move improved their career prospects, with tax-free pay.
-
It's diverse and comfortable. 83% get by fine in English, 90% rate culinary variety positively, and Pakistanis praise the infrastructure, fast internet, and value for money.
-
Healthcare and services reassure. 87% rate the quality of medical care positively and 93% government environmental policy.

The downsides of Abu Dhabi for Pakistani expats
-
Housing and costs bite. Just 26% of expats in Abu Dhabi rate housing affordability positively and 34% the general cost of living, and Pakistanis describe a struggle to rent.
-
Pay and growth can hinge on nationality. Lower salaries for South Asian expats with the same qualifications, and limited professional growth, come up repeatedly.
-
The heat and humidity wear on people. Only 35% rate the climate and weather positively.
-
There's no permanence. No permanent residency if you lose your job, and a tight market for some, add insecurity, with overall happiness (62%) below the global average.

For Pakistanis, Abu Dhabi offers safety, strong careers, tax-free pay, and a clean, well-run life close to home. The trade-offs are the cost of housing, the heat, and pay that can hinge on nationality, with no path to permanence. It rewards those who come with a solid package and a plan to save.
