Le Concert d’Astrée ‘Stabat Mater’ by Pergolesi
Le Concert d’Astrée and Emmanuelle Haïm are among the foremost exponents of contemporary baroque music and will be visiting us for the second year running. On this occasion they have invited two renowned soloists: the soprano Emőke Baráth and the countertenor Carlo Vistoli.
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi finished the Stabat Mater shortly before his death at the age of twenty-six. It is based on a 13th-century poem that has been modified over time and is one of the religious texts most used by composers. Pergolesi’s arrangement is the most widely disseminated musical work of the 18th century, as well as one of the earliest still regularly performed, along with Handel’s Messiah.
