OBC Y Childress / Boulanger, Garreta, Guinjoan and Sibelius
A programme that blends French refinement, Nordic expressiveness, and the richness of Catalan musical heritage. Stephanie Childress conducts the OBC in a sonic journey that begins with the introspective sensitivity of Lili Boulanger’s D’un soir triste, and continues with two tributes to Catalan music: Les illes Medes by Juli Garreta and Joan Guinjoan’s Fantasia del Trencadís, taken from his opera Gaudí. The concert culminates with Sibelius’s Symphony No. 1, a work of epic breadth and powerful orchestration that marks the beginning of his unique voice. A dialogue between traditions and aesthetics that converge at the Palau in an evening of contrasts and discovery.
