Sarma Für Alle: A Trilingual Cooking Workshop
Hallo Alle!
I'd like to invite you to a special event hosted by a colleague of mine. If you enjoy cooking, meaningful conversations, and meeting people from different cultures, this sounds like a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
‘Sarma für Alle’ is a trilingual, hands-on cooking workshop that focuses on food culture, memory and identity.
Hosted by psychologist Dr phil. Deniz Küçüker at Ara Mekân in Rotherbaum, Hamburg. Centred on her grandmother's ancestral recipe from Kilis, a small city near the Türkiye–Syria border, this gathering treats the ancient Mediterranean ritual of rolling vine leaves as a bridge across borders and generations.
From its roots in Mesopotamia and the Ottoman palace kitchens to tables across the Balkans and the Middle East, sarma becomes a shared record of land, displacement and belonging. Designed as an intimate space of quiet rhythm and conversation, we gather around a shared table to roll leaves, exchange childhood food memories and fold our own unique stories into a collective experience. Proving that a simple grape leaf can still build a sense of home somewhere new.
We'll also discover which wines pair beautifully with this traditional dish, and everyone will have the chance to taste a pair glasses of wine together. 🍷🍇
