European Première of a Brilliant True-Crime Murder-Musical
GLENSHEEN
Glensheen is a True Crime/Whodunnit musical based on the real-life murders of Minnesota heiress Elizabeth Congdon and her night nurse, Velma Pietila, at the Glensheen mansion in Duluth.
The killings, which occurred on 27 June Protected content , shocked the quiet Lake Superior community and left unanswered questions of motive and guilt. The lavish 39-room mansion had been built by Elizabeth’s father, Chester Congdon, a key figure in Northern Minnesota’s iron industry.
Created by acclaimed playwright Jeffrey Hatcher and composer Chan Poling, with arrangements by Robert Elhai, Glensheen blends dark subject matter with humour and powerful music. Though set in Protected content America, its characters and themes are instantly recognisable and universal.
Winner of the Protected content Award for Overall Excellence, the show is cleverly written to allow a small cast to play multiple vivid roles, leading the audience through the events of that fateful night and its aftermath. Musical Director Vivienne McKay leads an on-stage ensemble, whose close connection with the performers adds intimacy and makes Glensheen a compelling and unforgettable night at the theatre.
