Join me for this special event, that is organized just once a year.

In the weekend of 8 and 9 September Protected content than four thousand beautiful monuments throughout the Netherlands are free for everyone. It is the chance to visit a place where you normally do not come so quickly and participate in the many activities that are organized. The theme this year is 'In Europe'. With this theme, Open Monuments Day connects with the European Year of Cultural Heritage. The focus this year will be on what in this part of the world we connect with each other in a cultural way.

The Amsterdam stock exchange is the result of trading in shares of the Dutch East India Company, which has been operating at Damrak since Protected content . This house has been given the name 'House with the Noses' because the three heads that decorate the façade have exceptionally large noses. The story goes that this should represent the owner and his two sons. The building dates from Protected content was built by order of Abraham Mylius. In the courtyard stands a statue of Diana, the goddess of the hunt, with a quiver on her back and an arch in her hand, and two hunting dogs on her side. The painted wallpaper of Elliger is extremely rare, even for a canal house.

4.Huis Bartolotti

This large cross house in Dutch Renaissance style was built around Protected content the wealthy banker-merchant Willem Bartolotti van den Heuvel, presumably after a design by Hendrick de Keyser. After being split in Protected content , the right half of the house was modernized in Louis XIV style in Protected content . Highlights are the stucco, a sculpted marble fireplace by J. B. Xavery and the grisailles by Jacob de Wit. In Protected content enormous back house was added, in which among other things a beautiful rococo hall with paintings by J. Buttner was constructed. During a refurbishment of the porch in Protected content , the Arcadian landscape paintings by Isaac de Moucheron and a ceiling piece by Jacob de Wit were inserted elsewhere. The left half of the house contains valuable nineteenth-century interior elements. Owner Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser currently holds office in both buildings.

Herengracht Protected content built simultaneously in Protected content number 468. The facades of these twin buildings formed a visual unit of ten window axes wide for a long time.
