Our Community of Expatriates in Amsterdam Welcomes You!

Hallo en welkom to our warm and friendly expat community in Amsterdam, the vibrant and world renowned capital of the Netherlands. Here at InterNations, we know how difficult it can be relocating your entire life to a new city, and so we aim to take as much of the stress and hassle out of this process as possible. We firmly believe that communication and sharing experiences is the best way to learn, so through our busy online community (and real life get-togethers) we offer any expat the support and information they need, given to them by those who have been in a similar situation themselves. Want to find a property in an affordable yet desirable area of the city, but don't know your Nieuwmarktbuurt from your De Pijp? Want to know the best restaurants, clubs, bars, and coffee shops in town, from a local perspective? Or simply find that perfect apartment overlooking a secluded canal for a decent price? Any, and hopefully all, of your questions can easily be answered by our strong network of expats with a cumulative wealth of experience when it comes to living, working and relaxing in the picturesque city of Amsterdam. After your arrival, we offer you a helpful and personal gateway into Amsterdam life and an easy introduction to other like-minded expats living in Amsterdam, who can guide you on your way to fully assimilating yourself into the local environment and culture. From trying delicious stroopwafels in one of the cities many local bakeries, to experiencing a riot of orange-colored dancing and festivities during the Koningsdag, or King's Day, celebrations, there is plenty of scope to immerse yourself in local culture in Amsterdam, while still staying connected to your homeland through our expat community.

With InterNations, you never stand alone. Whether you are moving to another country or going on a business trip somewhere — our communities around the world are there to make you feel at home wherever you are. Feel free to also check out our other vibrant InterNations Communities like the ones in Jeddah or Riyadh.

What Is Expat Life in Amsterdam Like?

Amsterdam is a city world renowned for its picturesque beauty. With over 100 kilometers of canals and long, straight streets lined by stunning, tall, and thin townhouses (some of which date back to the 17th century), Amsterdam is one of those rare unmistakable cities that oozes charm and character. As a vibrant and busy international business and tourism destination, many locals in Amsterdam will be happy to speak and work in English. There are also many ways to learn Dutch, not least through conversation with our InterNations Community who will be happy to assist you with any queries or difficulties you may have adjusting to the particulars of life in Amsterdam.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. Whether they live in Shanghai or Dubai, InterNations allows you to be close to them even if they are miles away.

InterNations: The Easiest Way to Grow Your Expat Network in Amsterdam

For example, you can join our Amsterdam Language Exchange Group to help pick up Dutch, or any other language that people from our wide range of expats have learnt; or go to one of the professional networking meetings to help kick-start your career in Amsterdam with some new professional contacts. These two are just the tip of the iceberg, presenting a small sample of the extensive range of groups and events InterNations members run in Amsterdam and around the world. From expat cinema clubs, to singles nights and cycling (an ubiquitous method of travel in Amsterdam, check out the bike racks by the station on a weekday during working hours to see just how popular) or sailing clubs, there is an InterNations Group for any taste or hobby, allowing you to continue doing the things you loved doing before your move, with a carefully vetted and like-minded group of English speaking expats from all corners of the globe. However, we also understand that your needs aren't always purely social, and our guides as well as our members will do their best happy to answer any questions you might have about work permits, business laws, property purchase agreements, and anything else you require before setting up your new life in Amsterdam, one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the world.
