White Lies (New Zealand Film Festival)
In the early twentieth century in a small town in New Zealand, Paraiti, a Maori healer, is sought as a last resort even for white women, despite colonialist laws that prohibit her from exercising. One day Maraea, another Maori woman, begs her to treat her employer, Rebecca, the wife of a wealthy local businessman. Rebecca is pregnant, and since her husband's trip abroad has been long, it is clear that the son is not his. The commission to end the pregnancy leads to a revelation of racial secrets and tensions.
