Dante, the Rock and the Monks of Silence

Dear group,
the winter is still there and we want to top it off with a great walk!
We will start from the Bisenzio valley floor, where we will cross the river thanks to a beautiful medieval bridge.
We will then climb into the woods along the so-called 'Dante's Path'.
An easy, albeit steep, cart track will allow us to reach the ridge, where we will be rewarded by a magnificent view.
We will meet then an ancient parish church and eventually reach the Monastery of Silence, a community of oriental monks and lay people who lead a life of meditation and daily work.
From the monastery we will begin to descend to reach the incredible Rocca di Cerbaia, mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy, built on a rocky spur overlooking the valley, the center of an old defensive system.
Here's some characteristics of the excursion:
Total length: about 12 km
Total climb altitude: Protected content
Expected duration: Protected content
Difficulty level: medium
Duration: day trip, packed mid-day lunch
Required equipment:
Suitable dressing for the weather forecast, trekking shoes, water 1.5L min; hiking poles recommended.
