Food, Music and Party, Celebrating Chili Independendence Day
Welcome to the Chilean Independence Day (Fiestas Patrias), which is officially on 18 September, but celebrated in Amsterdam this Saturday, 19 September. Get ready for a full day (and night) of Chilean culture in Amsterdam, live music, folk dance, theatre, DJs, and Chilean food and drinks from 14:00 straight through to 03:00.
The headline act is La Banda Fantástica, a cumbia band formed by musicians from Chile, Argentina and Mexico who blend electric guitar and bass with traditional percussion, a genre-hopping mix of Latin American cumbia, chicha and psychedelia. They take the stage live at 22:30. The bill also includes the musical "Compañía Las Violetas," folk dance from Grupo Folclore Pehuén, puppet theatre from Compañía Moviendo Hilos, and DJs Daniela Haverbeck, Michael and Tico.
I won't attend the full day (but you can). Let's meet at the venue at 20:00 for some food and drinks before La Banda Fantástica goes on.
