Book Launch, Paula Rego: Story Line by Nick Willing
A private tour and book signing
Join us for a private tour of the largest exhibition of Paula Rego’s drawings to date, led by the artist’s son, Nick Willing, at Protected content . This special evening celebrates the publication of Paula Rego: Story Line by Nick Willing and the finissage of the exhibition, which closes on Saturday 23 May.
The exhibition and book tell the story of Rego’s extraordinary life through an illuminating selection of drawings from across her career. The featured works offer unique insight into her artistic and biographical development and show how, as a 'drawrer' (her own word), Rego came to understand herself and the world around her — the immediate world of domestic life and family relationships, and the wider worlds of art and politics, which she responded to with characteristic humour, honesty and defiance.
The drawings range from intimate studies to preparatory works for some of Rego’s most recognisable paintings. They are accompanied by photographs and other rarely seen archival material, creating a uniquely personal account of what drove and sustained her, the challenges she faced, and what she overcame to become one of our most beloved and important artists.
