Il mago del Cremlino is a political thriller directed by Olivier Assayas, adapted by Assayas and acclaimed author Emmanuel Carrère from Giuliano da Empoli's novel. Amid post-Soviet chaos, a brilliant young man, Vadim Baranov, charts his path. First an artist, then a reality tv producer, he becomes the spin doctor to a rising KGB agent: Vladimir Putin.
The movie stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander, Oscar nominees Jude Law and Jeffrey Wright, and Paul Dano (The Fablemans, TIFF ’22) as players in a geopolitical drama where gamesmanship and governance become chillingly blurred.
