Dante Loves Jazz -++++ Read the Instructions!++++
A lecture-concert, "Portrait of Italian Song," a journey through the rich history of Italian song, focusing on the language used by the most celebrated lyricists in the history of the Bel Paese. Leading us on this adventure will be the Dante Loves Jazz band, directed by Michelino Bisceglia.
We'll begin with what is considered the first true Italian song: "Santa Lucia," a Neapolitan song with music by Teodoro Cottrau and lyrics by Michele Zezza (Neapolitan) and Enrico Cossovich (Italian). We'll then continue with a dozen great pop classics, including pieces by Domenico Modugno, Mina, Lucio Battisti, Mia Martini, Fabrizio de André, Lucio Dalla, and Ornella Vanoni. Each piece will be introduced with historical and linguistic information and performed with jazz arrangements.
Dante Loves Jazz is an international jazz group directed by pianist, composer, and conductor Michelino Bisceglia; It is composed of Alice Claudia Lenaz (vocals), Gabriele di Franco (guitar), Werner Lauscher (double bass) and Lieven Venken (drums)
