Japanese Design Today – Exhibition Visit & Artist Talk
We warmly invite you to join us for a special cultural event at the Japanese Cultural Institute Cologne (JKI), dedicated to the fascinating world of contemporary Japanese design. The visit includes a exploration of the exhibition Japanese Design Today 100, which offers insights into how Japanese designers approach form, function, materials, and everyday life.
A highlight of the event will be an English-language lecture by Prof. Masayo Ave, an internationally active Japanese designer who has lived and worked in Europe for over three decades. In her talk, she will present fresh perspectives on the future of everyday objects through a Japanese design lens.
The lecture begins with stories of traditional lifestyles and sustainable design practices from the 17th century, rooted in the philosophy of Mottainai. It then traces the evolution of Japanese industrial design, revealing behind-the-scenes connections between craftsmanship traditions and modern technology.
An inspiring event for anyone interested in design, Japanese culture, and creative exchange.
