Experience the Art of Kabuki – Live in Cologne
Dear Photography (and Cultural ?) Enthusiasts,
There is a unique evening celebrating the beauty of traditional Japanese performing arts: Kabuki, a theatrical form with over Protected content of history. Combining drama, dance, and music, Kabuki is renowned for its rich visual language and refined artistry.
A special highlight of this performance is the art of Onnagata—the portrayal of female roles by male actors. Through elaborate makeup, exquisite costumes, and highly stylized movements, this tradition has evolved into one of Kabuki’s most captivating expressions.
At the Japan Cultural Institute Cologne, acclaimed Kabuki actor Nakamura Takanosuke will first present “The Art of Onnagata”, demonstrating step by step the transformation process on stage. In the second part, he will perform the celebrated dance piece Fujimusume (“The Wisteria Maiden”).
