Architecture #2. August Perret. Visit to the Palais D'Iéna
As the third constitutional assembly of the Republic, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (ESEC) is an essential cog in French democracy. It participates in the development and evaluation of public policies in its fields of competence.
The ESEC is a democratic expression of civil society in action. Its work is based on listening, dialogue and the search for a demanding consensus to respond to the challenges of today and tomorrow and to inform public decision-making.
The building hosting the ESEC is the Palais d’Iéna, conceived and built by Auguste Perret in the 30's, an architect whose style is marked by his use of concrete. His vision left an indelible mark on the history of architecture, and produced grandiose achievements, such as the Palais d’Iéna.
The Palais d’Iéna alone encapsulates all the architectural and technical innovations introduced by Auguste Perret. As such, it occupies a privileged place in his oeuvre.
You can read more information about the building and the Architect in the following links:
We will visit the building with an official guide from the ESEC, not sure that we will have the time to draw but hopefully to take pictures at least.
No reservation needed.
Afterwards we can discuss around a drink if desired.
