The Romanov Girls
OTMA
Olga. Tatiana. Maria. Anastasia.
We see them in archival footage and photographs: silent, haunting, ethereal, mysterious, mythical, beautiful, forever young.
The smart one, the kind one, the prettiest one, the mischievous one.
We know the tragic ending in that Ekaterinburg basement
Now let us learn about their lives as daughters, friends, sisters.
Their parents called them "our little four-leaved clover". Though thoroughly Russian, there was a distinctive "Englishness" to them. They were humorous, intelligent and perceptive. They climbed up trees and hid to escape from tedious lessons. They deliberately got sunburnt prior to a foreign tour, to dissuade suitors from marrying them.
Even in their opulent palaces, they lived simply and wore hand-me-downs. Stripped of power and in captivity, they bravely confronted the guards who sexually harassed them.
Undiminished to the end.
