Help Prepare Bagged Lunches
This month’s Changemakers event will be to help prepare lunchbags for people in need in our LA community. Some people will remember we participated in this event last year and it was a lot of fun!
The event is hosted by Hashtaglunchbag ( Protected content ) part of the Living Through Giving Foundation non-profit organization. They started right here in LA back in Protected content just a group of friends trying to find some way to give back to the community, and now have grown to a worldwide movement who helps bring a meal and a smile to the hungry in Protected content globally.
The event starts around 9: Protected content am at the Parlor in Melrose, but I’d like us to meet around 9:30 am so we can say hi and I can answer any questions. There is limited parking in the garage downstairs, but otherwise should be plenty of street parking around.
Inside we will sign up and get a name tag (and a pin if you’d like one!). They recommend a $10 cash donation while signing up that helps cover all the food and supplies that goes into the event (you will soon see there is a lot!), but it’s optional.
After signing up, we get to work! There’s lots for everyone to do – prepare sandwiches, pack bags, write friendly notes, etc. There’s a DJ playing music in the background and an area to dance if you feel like getting your morning hustle on! It’s a family friendly event, so feel free to bring your kids as well.
The preparation wraps up around 11: Protected content when they will talk a little about what they are doing and take pictures.
After 12 pm, they ask for volunteers to help drive the prepared lunches downtown and distribute them to the homeless in the Skid Row area. This is completely optional as well, but you get a chance to see the actual impact we make. If you are interested in distribution, I would recommend wearing close-toed shoes as the streets are not too clean down there (one day!).
It’s a really fun event and I look forward to seeing you there! Please only sign up if you really can make it so we have a correct count. If you sign up and can’t make it (life happens!) please cancel attendance to give others a chance.
