Pridnestrovie & Gagauzia.A Journey through History and Tradition
Pridnestrovie and Gagauzia, two little-known regions of Moldova, each with its own identity, history, and traditions. The journey begins in Chișinau, the capital, from where we immediately move to the eastern part of the country to enter the Republic of Pridnestrovie Moldavian, better known as Transnistria: a de facto republic, unrecognized by the international community and often shrouded in stereotypes. Here we will go beyond clichés to discover from within the soul of what is called "the last socialist country in Europe," today more than ever a borderland. In this region we discover Tiraspol, the capital, a veritable leap into the past amidst soviet architecture, colorful markets, and views of the Dniester river. Not far away is the Bender fortress, built by the ottomans in the 16th century, the rural village of Chițcani, and the evocative Noul Neamt monastery, a place of silence, spirituality... and good wine. The journey continues south, first to Cazaclia and then to Comrat, the capital of Gagauzia: another small autonomous region, turkic-speaking and orthodox, which proudly guards its identity. Here, the Gagauz community proudly preserves its roots: we'll visit the local museum and listen to the voices of the babushkas, who, with their folk songs, perpetuate the cultural and linguistic identity of this extraordinary people. The journey between Pridnestrovie and Gagauzia, two autonomous worlds in the heart of Moldova. For practical details and registration, send message
