Theatre: Guards at the Taj
The year is Protected content . For 16 years, 20,000 workers have been working behind walls in complete secrecy to construct the Taj Mahal, which would become one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is the evening before the reveal of the Taj Mahal.
Two longtime friends, Humayun and Babur are low-level imperial guards whose duty is to stand guard at the brand-new Taj Mahal hours before it is to be unveiled at dawn. The two men are not only forbidden to look at the building, they are also expected to maintain silent while standing guard. Hamayun’s obedience to his duties is challenged by Babur. Filled with curiosity and a wondering mind, Babur keeps breaking the silence. In spite of his attempts, Hamayun soon finds himself engaged with Babur’s dangerous babblings.
The play reaches a turning point when the guards are ordered to do the unthinkable.
