Ever Wondered What a Pow Wow Is?
Pow Wow season is almost here!
As the weather warms and communities prepare for their summer gatherings, this is the perfect moment to discover one of the most vibrant Indigenous traditions in Canada: the Pow Wow.
If you’re new to Canada—or simply curious about First Nations culture—join us for Pow Wow 101, a lively, free introduction designed to help you understand what Pow Wows are, why they matter, and how you can experience them respectfully and confidently.
Led by Naskapi dancer, actress, and storyteller Marie‑Céline Einish, this event includes:
- A dynamic dance demonstration, including social dances and an introduction to different Pow Wow styles such as the hoop dance
- A friendly discussion and Q&A about Pow Wow etiquette, meaning, and what to expect when you attend one this summer
Pow Wows are joyful, communal, and deeply meaningful gatherings—and learning about them is a wonderful way to connect with First Nations cultures and communities.
