KALEIDOSCOPE OF ROMANTICISM
Between intimate poetry and dazzling virtuosity
On Ascension Day, the renowned pianist Elzbieta Mazur invites you to an extraordinary solo recital at the Protected content
Under the title ‘In the Kaleidoscope of Romanticism’, a programme unfolds that illuminates the many facets of an era ranging from intimate poetry to dazzling virtuosity.
The concert spans the spectrum from the Viennese Classical-Romantic style of Schubert to the psychological depths of Schumann.
Elzbieta Mazur opens the evening with Franz Schubert’s two Impromptus in B flat major, D. 935/3, and E flat major, D. 899/2 – works that feel like fleeting yet deeply felt moments. They form the lyrical foundation of the concert.
As a renowned interpreter of Chopin, she then turns her attention in the middle section to the Polish aspects of Romanticism, thereby also returning to her own family roots. Frédéric Chopin’s Mazurka in B minor, Op. 33, No. 4, and the radiant virtuoso piece Andante spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante, Op. 22, are followed by Juliusz Zarębski’s Grande Polonaise in F-sharp major, Op. 6. Zarębski, a master pupil of Franz Liszt, is regarded as the ‘missing link’ between Chopin and Impressionism; his Polonaise is a rarely heard gem full of chromatic sophistication and pianistic splendour.
