PUCCINI, MIO AMORE !
Xenia GALANOVA, Soprano - Davide SPINA, Piano
On 3 June Protected content , the ballroom of the Landstraße Town Hall will be transformed into a stage for the great emotions of opera history. The programme “PUCCINI – MIO AMORE!” is a profound tribute to the genius of Giacomo Puccini, the centenary of whose death was recently marked. The focus of the evening is not only on his world-famous melodies, but also on the psychological depth of his female characters – from the fragile Mimì to the self-sacrificing Butterfly and the aloof Princess Turandot.
The concert breaks with the tradition of the grand opera concert and presents Puccini’s stirring music with an intimate, chamber-music-like intensity. By reducing the ensemble to soprano (Xenia Galanova) and piano (Davide Spina), the essence of the compositions is revealed. The human voice enters into a direct dialogue with the piano, which here takes on far more than a mere accompanying role.
The selection of pieces follows an emotional arc: The concert begins with the tender hope of La Bohème, leads through the bitter suffering of Manon Lescaut and culminates in the monumental power of Turandot. The instrumental solos and the contemporary composition by Davide Spina (“Dei Natali men recenti”) serve as atmospheric bridges, giving the audience space for reflection and placing the programme in a modern context.
