The piano recital ‘JOSEFSTÄDTER SALONKLÄNGE – Between Romantic Depth and Virtuoso Power’ invites the audience on an emotional journey through time, exploring the most significant eras of piano literature. On 1 October Protected content , pianist Victoria Vasilchenko will transform the Protected content into a concert hall that combines the intimacy of the 19th century with the dynamism of the modern era.
The programme is a carefully curated exploration of contrasts. It opens with Beethoven’s iconic ‘Moonlight Sonata’, whose first movement exudes an almost meditative calm, before giving way to a deeply personal, late-autumnal melancholy in Johannes Brahms’ Intermezzo in A major. With Frédéric Chopin’s ‘Héroïque’ Polonaise, the atmosphere shifts from introspection to extroverted brilliance – a work that, like few others, embodies the pride and virtuoso splendour of Romanticism.
In the second part of the evening, the focus shifts to the Russian soul and pianistic virtuosity. Rachmaninoff’s Préludes offer a spectrum ranging from lyrical warmth to rhythmic rigour. The technical highlight is one of Franz Liszt’s Transcendental Études, which pushes the piano to its sonic limits. The finale finally breaks with classical tradition: the passionate melancholy of Astor Piazzolla’s tango brings the fire of the 20th century to the concert evening, drawing a line from the nocturnal stillness of moonlight to the pulsating rhythms of Argentina.
