Vernissage in Cologne
Dear Friends, this month we are organizing a come-together in Colonge for the vernissage of "Sacred Interweaving" by our fellow-member Antonia.
Her works enter the global dialogue between cultures, eras, and worlds of faith.
With her distinctive visual vocabulary, the artist weaves together the sacred traditions of the world into a harmonious whole. Antonia invites us-viewers to discover the invisible threads that have connected our cultures for thousands of years.
The collage-like layers bring together artefacts from around the world:
The Baška Tablet (c. Protected content A testament to the Croatian written language in Glagolitic script, transferred from a replica held at the Berlin State Library.
The Phaistos Disc (c. Protected content The still-unsolved pictographic mystery from the Bronze Age of Crete.
The Edicts of King Ashoka (c. 270–232 BCE): Buddhist messages of peace inscribed in the ancient Indian Brahmi script.
The Stećci of the Bogomils: Mystical medieval tombstones of the Balkans.
The sanctuaries of the Thracians: Archaic traces from southern Bulgaria.
Yet these historical fragments do not remain isolated. In the artist’s studio, the delicate papers are layered with fine washes of watercolour. Light refracts through the colours, finding its way through the codes of the past. Combined with universal systems of notation, such as medieval neumes and classical musical scores, they form a unique visual score.
