Baroque Emotion: Painter Guercino in his Homeland
From Goethe's "Italian Journey" Protected content "I'm writing to you from Guercino's home town, in a better mood than yesterday evening".
This is how we'll start our day too :)
09.30 am meeting inside the Protected content .
10.30 am we are in Cento, at the San Lorenzo Pinacoteque, ready to start our guided tour into the world of one of the greatest Italian painters. Goethe dedicates a wonderful praise to him: «Guercino is an intimately probe painter, virile, healthy, never rude; on the contrary, his works are distinguished by a gentle moral grace, by a quiet and free grandeur, and by a peculiarity which allows the eye to recognize his style at first glance. The lightness, purity and perfection of his brush are amazing. For draperies, he uses particularly beautiful colors, with half reddish-brown hues, very well harmonizing with the blue he also favours."
13.00 Lunch at a local restaurant suggested by an old friend born and raised in Cento.
14.30 Our guide will take us to the second part of the exhibition, held at the Castle, Rocca di Cento.
Then, we shall jump back into our private bus, for one hour trip to Bologna. Please note that the cost might get lower if we manage to fill the bus, to split its cost even further.
