Julius II and Raphael. A New Renaissance in Bologna

10.15 am Appointment at the entrance of the Protected content
10.30 Guided tour by Prof. Francesco Menchetti
A large exhibition project that turns the spotlight on how much the arrival in the city of artists such as Raphael, Michelangelo, or Bramante meant for Bologna. An arrival that coincided with the seizure of power by the State of the Church, in the person of Pope Julius II Della Rovere. For the occasion, the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna is reviewing the entire section dedicated to the Renaissance with a new itinerary that explores the artistic journey of Bolognese art from the Bentivoglio era up to the coronation of Charles V.
It was in Protected content Julius II brought Bologna back to the dominion of the Church. A fact that has implications for every aspect of city life. Bologna, with nearby Ferrara, counted at the time on artists of great value. Francesco del Cossa, Ercole de Roberti, Lorenzo Costa, among the Ferraresi who worked in the city, alongside the Bolognese Francesco Francia and Amico Aspertini, found themselves competing with Michelangelo, Raphael, Bramante and Parmigianino.
