Goths and the Fall of Rome - Episode 1

In AD Protected content Goths sacked Rome, sending shock waves through the ancient world. St Jerome wrote at the time: “In one city, the whole world perished.”
Who were the Goths? Where did they come from and what became of them? Why did they sack Rome and how did they do it? What were the consequences?
Simon MacDowall, author of several books on the fall of Rome, will examine these questions and more. He will discuss the pivotal role played by the Goths in bringing about the end of the Roman Empire in the West — looking at military, political, economic and social factors.
