Belly Dance: Biases, Taboo and History (Part I)

Time: 22:00 Dubai, 19:00 Geneva, all members are welcome to attend the event.
What comes to your mind when you think of belly dance and belly dancers? We will discuss why this ancient dance form is so misunderstood throughout the ages and will take a look at this dance’s long history, styles from different countries in the Middle East and will explore some vibrant and invigorating music and dance clips from Egypt!
We will share our perspectives, backgrounds and experiences both as a non-Arabic-speaking professional belly dancer (Golnaz A.) and as an Egyptian (She.E.S.).
During the second session, we will explore the beautiful rhythms and sounds of Egyptian Raks Sharqi (belly dance) and the basic dance movements. The presenter will share a list of recommended music and further reading/hearing.
Looking forward!
She.E.S. & Golnaz A.
